Below are a few organizations we have served with as a church family — and they have current needs that we can fill! Click the name of each organization to expand, read more, and sign up.
Youth Encouragement Services
Youth Encouragement Services has been a staple in the Napier neighborhood for over 65 years and more recently has expanded into the Woodbine area. They serve kids and families in these areas through after school programs, tutoring and mentoring, summer camps, athletic leagues, and more. Their goal is to provide a safe alternative to the streets for kids and teens during their free time through a Christ-centered community.
If you are interested in getting more involved with any of YES’ programming throughout the year, head to their website to view their volunteer positions and needs. Click here to read our blog and see the YES video.
The Cookery operates a nonprofit restaurant in the 12 South neighborhood which fuels an incredible ministry. This ministry is aimed at men experiencing homelessness in our city by entering them into a program where they receive temporary housing, mentorship, community, and training through their restaurant. The training focuses on the art and business of restaurant operations, cooking, etc. with the hopes of applying this marketable skill to help each participant find employment once their time is complete with The Cookery.
Currently, they are looking for 2-3 experienced painters to help them paint a large external wall at their restaurant. Experience in using a paint sprayer and/or large rollers is necessary. If you're interested, please click here to sign up.
The Branch Food Pantry
The Branch is a food pantry that operates in the Antioch area of Nashville. During the recent COVID-19 crisis, the need for food assistance has increased dramatically. They’ve had to move their facilities to Antioch Methodist Church just to handle the capacity. Because of this, they are looking for some more volunteers to help them pack food boxes, load carts with food to be distributed, and unload trucks. They also have some need of volunteers to help prepare some rooms for use with their ESL program. This would involve cleaning and painting, primarily. If you’d like to volunteer as an individual, click here to sign up on their website. If you and a group of friends or your house church would like to serve as a group, click here to email Michelle Mack, their volunteer coordinator.
Dismas House is a transitional facility for men who are leaving incarceration and attempting to re-enter the free world. At Dismas, we believe that the worth of a person is more than the worst thing they have ever done, and do everything in our power to empower them to start a new life, free from the cycle of incarceration. Our programming focuses on the whole person, and we create spaces to facilitate healing and development of mind, body and spirit. Volunteers help in every step of our program, doing anything from helping with office administration to one-on-one with a resident. We welcome volunteers to be a part of the Dismas House Family by sharing time, skills and good food with our community.
Matthew 25 draws deeply from the life and teachings of Christ. Our work and mission are founded on His lessons of love, compassion and hospitality. More than a shelter, Matthew 25 is a Nashville-based, residential facility that provides Housing, Help and Hope to veterans and homeless men in need. Our service-intensive transitional housing program offers a safe, sober, and supportive living environment for men wanting to turn their lives around. Specifically, we provide men comprehensive supportive services that enable them to return to independent living and obtain employment. In addition to beds and meals, we bridge the gap from homelessness to permanent housing by providing case management, employment and housing placement assistance, substance abuse recovery support, as well as life and social skills development and training. We believe that all men deserve a chance to recapture fulfillment, happiness and independence, and we envision a Matthew 25 campus that serves as an all-encompassing oasis for men in need of a fresh start on life.
We could use volunteer assistance with our Progressive Housing Program. This program features 16 one-bedroom efficiency apartments, which come fully furnished, and residents in the program share community bathrooms and a kitchen. Over the past 6 months, we have had a lower number of residents and have had a hard time keeping up with regular chores to keep the third floor clean and tidy. This area is in desperate need of a deep clean! Here are the general work items we have in mind:
- Deep cleaning of 5 bathrooms
- Deep cleaning kitchen and two refrigerators/freezers
- Vacuuming and shampooing hallway and sitting room carpet
- Dusting and mopping of single rooms to prepare them for men moving in

Siloam Health provides whole-person medical care for the underserved, promotes community health among marginalized immigrants and refugees, and offers student education for the next generation of health care providers. Siloam's mission is to share the love of Christ by serving those in need through health care. We depend on the generosity of this community to help us carry out that mission through volunteerism, financial support, and your prayers.
Currently, Siloam is in need of volunteer nurses and medical interpreters (Spanish and Arabic). For more information about these roles and to fill out our online volunteer application, click here.
UrbanPromise Nashville exists to help refugee youth heal, learn, and direct their own futures for good. Through our after-school programs and summer camps, we provide opportunities for elementary-age refugee students to improve academic competency, develop mentoring relationships, explore the arts, and nurture their own faith. Through our StreetLeader program, high school refugee students are employed to work as leaders and mentors at these programs. In addition to a job, these high schoolers receive extensive leadership development, job training, academic support, trauma-sensitive counseling, discipleship, and mentoring to support their future success in and outside of the program.
UrbanPromise Nashville’s ultimate goal is to develop refugee youth into leaders who are passionate about serving their communities to advance good and bring glory to God. Our great hope is that refugee youth transform Nashville from the inside out by sharing and showing the love of Jesus throughout the city.
Currently, UPN is in need of volunteers for our fall programming which begins September 20th.
Some of our needs include:
Provide snacks + waters
Provide dinner for weekly StreetLeader trainings
