Serve Our City
Below are a few organizations we have served with as a church family — and they have current needs that we can fill! Click the name of each organization to expand, read more, and sign up.
Youth Encouragement Services
Youth Encouragement Services has been a staple in the Napier neighborhood for over 65 years and more recently has expanded into the Woodbine area. They serve kids and families in these areas through after school programs, tutoring and mentoring, summer camps, athletic leagues, and more. Their goal is to provide a safe alternative to the streets for kids and teens during their free time through a Christ-centered community.
If you are interested in getting more involved with any of YES’ programming throughout the year, head to their website to view their volunteer positions and needs. Click here to read our blog and see the YES video.
The Cookery: Feeding the Homeless
The Cookery operates a nonprofit restaurant in the 12 South neighborhood which fuels an incredible ministry. This ministry is aimed at men experiencing homelessness in our city by entering them into a program where they receive temporary housing, mentorship, community, and training through their restaurant in the art and business of restaurant operations, cooking, etc. with the hopes of applying this marketable skill to help each participant find employment once their time is complete with The Cookery.
Right now, they are extra mindful of reaching those experiencing homelessness in Nashville even outside their program by making lunches at their restaurant and then going out to distribute these meals daily at homeless camps and around the city. They’re looking for more volunteers to both distribute meals and to help prepare lunches each day. Currently, they need the most help Sunday-Friday. Delivery times are flexible and take only about 45 minutes, so it’s something you might even be able to squeeze into your lunch break at work. If you’d like to volunteer for either role (making lunches or distributing), click here to email their team.
The Branch Food Pantry
The Branch is a food pantry that operates in the Antioch area of Nashville. During the recent COVID-19 crisis, the need for food assistance has increased dramatically. They’ve had to move their facilities to Antioch Methodist Church just to handle the capacity. Because of this, they are looking for some more volunteers to help them pack food boxes, load carts with food to be distributed, and unload trucks. They also have some need of volunteers to help prepare some rooms for use with their ESL program. This would involve cleaning and painting, primarily. If you’d like to volunteer as an individual, click here to sign up on their website. If you and a group of friends or your house church would like to serve as a group, click here to email Michelle Mack, their volunteer coordinator.
Siloam Health Center Greeter
Siloam Health is a healthcare clinic with locations in both Melrose and Antioch. They provide healthcare primarily for uninsured or underinsured individuals. Many of their patients come from immigrant, refugee, or homeless populations. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Siloam is looking for volunteers to serve outside the main entrance safely directing any incoming individuals with symptoms of COVID-19 to proceed to a triage clinic that we set up at our Melrose Facility while also helping them admit patients without symptoms to their front desk. All volunteers will be oriented to avoid exposure to themselves while pointing to signs that will direct anyone with fever or cough where to proceed. This service will free up valuable staff time during the season of heightened need. Though the clinic currently anticipates needing greeter volunteers during all scheduled clinic shifts, the need and the role may change in the coming weeks and months as the pandemic progresses.

For each service opportunity, masks will be required and social distancing will be in effect.

We believe that when we lead lives of mercy and justice, love the hurting, feed the hungry, and speak up for the weak — the light of Jesus will shine brighter than we can imagine in Nashville. Let’s lock arms with our brothers and sisters across the city and give of our time and talents to share the love of Jesus!
