Why are we gathering on Thursday?

Posted by Dave Clayton on

So we know what you might be thinking, how come our Christmas Worship Gatherings are on Thursday, December 22nd instead of Sunday, December 25th? There are several reasons.

ONE : Prepare Our Hearts
We are gathering on Thursday, December 22nd as a way to intentionally prepare our hearts and minds for Sunday, December 25th. For many, Christmas brings about much stress and chaos. We are gathering early to set our hearts on Jesus and the peace that He alone can bring.

TWO : Bring Your Friends and Families
We wanted to create an opportunity for you to bring everyone you know to celebrate the goodness of Jesus with us. Since many of your friends and family members will be out of town, or busy with family activities on December 25th, we wanted to create an opportunity for them to come worship and celebrate with us.

THREE : Family/Friends Worship Gatherings on Dec 25th and Jan 1st
Finally, we wanted to create a special opportunity for you to worship with your family on Sunday December 25th. For the first followers of Jesus, the home was the central gathering place for worship (Deut 6:4-9, Acts 2:46, 1 Cor 16:19, & Col 4:15). Friends and families gathered to read the scriptures, sing songs, reflect on the goodness of God, and share a meal. For the earliest followers of Jesus, worship began in the home.

A few times each year, we like to take the opportunity to get back to our roots. So on Sunday, December 25th and January 1st, Ethos Church will not be gathering at the regular times for worship at the Cannery. Instead, Ethos Church will be meeting in hundreds of homes all throughout Nashville and beyond. In fact, wherever you are on December 25th and January 1st is where Ethos Church will be meeting.

For those of you who are at our Christmas Worship Gatherings on Thursday, December 22nd, we will give you special instructions for our “worship gatherings at home on Dec 25 and Jan 1.” For those of you who will not be with us on Dec 22nd, we will post the at home worship guides online on December 23rd.
