The Cookery: Feeding the Homeless
The Cookery operates a nonprofit restaurant in the 12 South neighborhood which fuels an incredible ministry. This ministry is aimed at men experiencing homelessness in our city by entering them into a program where they receive temporary housing, mentorship, community, and training through their restaurant. The training focuses on the art and business of restaurant operations, cooking, etc. with the hopes of applying this marketable skill to help each participant find employment once their time is complete with The Cookery.
Right now, they are extra mindful of reaching those experiencing homelessness in Nashville even outside their program by making lunches at the restaurant and going out to distribute these meals at homeless camps around the city. The Cookery is looking for volunteers to distribute meals each Tuesday at 11am. This takes between 45-60 minutes. If you work during the day, you could potentially do this on your lunch break! The Cookery needs at least 3 carloads of volunteers with food per delivery day, with at least 2 men per car.
If you’d like to volunteer to help, click here to email their team. Please organize your carload of volunteers ahead of time and then have one representative from your group email The Cookery to sign up for your team. Because you have organized your car of volunteers ahead of time, you will be ready to head out to deliver upon arriving at the Cookery. This is a great opportunity to serve with your roommates, family, friend group, or at-home gathering group.
*If sharing a vehicle with members outside of your own household, we would recommend mask wearing while in the car and while delivering food. This is a particularly vulnerable population, so we want to do our best to keep them as safe as possible.

This is a recurring service opportunity every Tuesday at 11am.
