Easter : Prayer and Fasting

Posted by Dave Clayton on

Our goal at Ethos Church is not simply to build a great church, but to help make Nashville a great city.

Several years ago, God really began to speak to Sydney and me through a passage of scripture in Jeremiah 29. We stumbled across this passage during a long season of prayer and fasting as we were wrestling with whether or not we should start a new church in downtown Nashville. The Word of God seemed to jump off the pages as we read :
"This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says to all those I carried into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon: Build houses and settle down, plant gardens and eat what they produce. Marry and have sons and daughters, find wives for your sons and give your daughters in marriage, so that they too may have sons and daughters. Increase in number there; do not decrease. Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for the city ..." - Jeremiah 29:4-7

As we approach Easter Sunday, we are going to spend time as a church family crying out to God for the good of our city. We are going to pray that God blesses our city leaders, our coworkers, our neighbors, and our friends. We are going to pray and fast for our friends that know Jesus and for our friends that do not.

On Thursday and Friday of this week, April 21 and 22, men and women from our church will be fasting and praying for our city. You can Pray and Fast on one day or both days. It is completely up to you.

As you pray and fast, here are some specific things and people you can pray for:
1) Pray for our city leaders.
2) Pray for your co-workers and neighbors.
3) Pray for your friends who know Jesus.
4) Pray for your friends that do not yet know Jesus.
5) Pray that God will continue to reveal himself in every aspect of our city.
