Cannery: Give & Serve in December

Posted by Ethos Church on

Our Cannery family has two great opportunities to give and serve in our local community through Y.E.S. and Casa Blanca Casa Linda.

Y.E.S. (Youth Encouragement Services)

Youth Encouragement Services (Y.E.S.) is located in the heart of the Napier-Sudekum neighborhood near our Cannery campus. They have faithfully served this neighborhood for many years offering inner-city youth a safe place to go where they can engage in social, educational, recreational, and cultural development in a Christ-centered environment. For over 40 years, they have run the Y.E.S. Christmas Store where families experiencing poverty select new toys and a complete outfit for every child in their family. Each family also receives a box of groceries and a $20 gift card to Walmart.

For the second year, we will be collecting items for the Christmas Store. You also have the opportunity to volunteer your time by helping Y.E.S. prepare for the event or helping families shop at the Christmas Store.

Items purchased for the Christmas Store can be dropped off at a designated place in the Cannery lobby before or after any gathering on December 1 and December 8 only.

If you’d like to volunteer to serve with the Christmas store on Saturday, December 14, click here and sign up. You will be able to see all available positions and times — make plans to sign up with your friends, family, or house church. Volunteer positions are limited, so sign up soon!

Casa Blanca Casa Linda

The Nashville Anti-Human Trafficking Coalition exists to love and serve our neighbors who have been victims of human trafficking. They have been working in an apartment complex called Casa Blanca Casa Linda to love and serve some of the most overlooked and forgotten neighbors among us in our city. Some of their goals are to help the people living there feel seen and known and to love them with the love of Jesus. Each year, they host a dinner around Christmas and pass out gifts to the residents of Casa Blanca Casa Linda that meet some basic needs.

You can help with this in two ways: by purchasing some of the items from this list or by going to the dinner on Thursday, December 19 to help distribute items, make hot chocolate, serve dinner, and love and serve the residents of the apartments — you can also do both!

Items purchased from this list can be dropped off at a designated place in the Cannery lobby before or after any gathering on December 1 and December 8 only.

Click here to view the shopping list.

To serve the night of the event, please sign up at the table in the Cannery lobby. Due certain aspects of the group we will be interacting with that night, all volunteers must be 18 years and older.
